EU Plastics and Chemicals Industries: In Need of A Zero-Waste Transition
Plastic, and in particular sustainable plastics, is of primary importance to EU policymakers, investors and companies. In 2019, the plastics industry in the EU employed 1.56 million people in over 55,000 companies resulting in EUR 350 billion in annual turnover.

Yet, between 2010 and 2019, while global plastics production grew, the EU27 plastics production sector did not grow and its environmental pollution from plastic increased.

The EU27 economy is facing a clear call to action as investors’ USD 750 billion equity exposure to the plastics production industry faces a slow melt towards stranded assets.

Increasingly, consumers, policymakers and FMCG companies are demanding sustainable plastics, not the polluting plastics the industry currently produces. For the EU27 to remain competitive globally, the industry must transition to producing only sustainable plastic products to address the twin economic and environmental threats.

This webinar will present an panel of experts to review the current state of the EU27 plastic industry and discuss how the economic and environmental challenges it faces can be addressed.
