EU Investor Exposure to Plastics Policies: Resins, Risks and Pollution
The EU resins and plastics packaging industries are the source of much of the plastics we use and dispose of each day, resulting in land- and water-based plastics pollution in the EU, with direct, well-documented negative impacts on EU nature and biodiversity. Because of these impacts, the industry is in a moment of transition, facing financial, business, technological and reputational risks – from new technological solutions, increasing product substitution, surging corporate commitments and government regulations and expanding consumer pressure on industry to reform, all driven by industry’s impacts on nature and biodiversity and the desire to mitigate these risks.
Out of this, many plastics industry leaders are pushing to address these risks throughout the EU plastics resins supply chains – from increasing recoverability of feedstocks to standardizing design to supporting greater recyclability.

But is industry moving quickly enough? Planet Tracker will describe the financial and natural capital risks facing the sector and its investors, and segment risks by exposure, scale, asset class and geography.

Planet Tracker will conclude by providing easy-to-apply EU case studies demonstrating how investors exposed to the EU resins and plastics packaging industries can address these risks by fully supporting the industry’s transition towards a more sustainable supply chain in its efforts to mitigate these natural capital risks and subsequent negative impacts on nature and biodiversity. Against this backdrop, Planet Tracker will lead a panel of experts discussing current solutions that can enable the plastics industry to address these natural capital and biodiversity risks in this moment of industry transition.

Moderator: Gabriel Thoumi, CFA FRM, Director of Financial Markets and Head of Plastics Programme, Planet Tracker.
